2 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Zagora
Overview
Embark on a captivating 2-day desert adventure from Marrakech to Zagora, where dramatic landscapes, ancient kasbahs, and desert magic await. Travel across the High Atlas Mountains through the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, passing picturesque Berber villages and lush valleys. Visit the world-famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and filming location for many Hollywood movies.
By late afternoon, arrive in Zagora, where a camel trek will lead you across the serene desert to a nomadic Berber camp. Spend the night under the stars, enjoying traditional Moroccan cuisine and rhythmic Berber drumming.
The next morning, wake to a beautiful Saharan sunrise before returning through the stunning Draa Valley, known for its palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and Morocco’s longest river. Your journey concludes back in Marrakech, filled with memories of the desert’s timeless beauty and tranquility.
Tour Plan
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Zagora
Depart from Marrakech at 8:00 AM, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m). Enjoy panoramic views and photo stops in Berber villages along the way.
Visit the legendary Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s most famous landmarks and a UNESCO site featured in films such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Continue through Ouarzazate and the Anti-Atlas Mountains, arriving in Zagora by late afternoon.
Take a camel ride into the desert, enjoy the sunset over the dunes, and spend the night in a Berber desert camp, where dinner and traditional music await under a starry sky.
Day 2: Zagora – Draa Valley – Tamnougalt Kasbah – Marrakech
Rise early to witness a magical sunrise over the desert, followed by breakfast at the camp. Ride your camel back to Zagora, then begin your return journey through the Draa Valley, home to Morocco’s longest river and endless palm oases.
Stop at the ancient Tamnougalt Kasbah, a hidden gem that reflects Morocco’s rich history and desert architecture. Continue through the Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech by early evening.
